Annual award recognizes excellence in residential heating and cooling projects
Keeping homeowners in and around Mesa is what the team at John’s Refrigeration does best, and has been doing since 1970, when Chris John started the company. The company recently received national attention, when it was recognized with a Quality Home Comfort Award from ContractingBusiness.commagazine, a leading, national HVAC industry publication.
The Quality Home Comfort Award is given to residential heating, ventilation, and air conditioning contractors based on details and photographs of comfort system installation projects provided to the magazine’s editors, based in Cleveland, OH.
The winning project was completed at the home of Bill and Aimee Edwards. The Edwards family was unhappy with uneven temperatures throughout the home, high utility bills, and dust problems.
“Even though they were new to the home, they noticed these issues right away,” says Andrew John, owner of John’s Refrigeration, who runs the company with his brother, Stephen John.
The team also discovered other comfort problems, such as duct leakage, low return air levels, and major pathways from the attic in the return air plenums. Providing the homeowners with superior energy efficiency was a top priority for the team at John’s Refrigeration.
“Every part of this project paid attention to efficiency,” Andrew John says. “Sealing the attic paths, sealing the duct system, installing proper plenums and dampers, and adding more return air.” He adds that the Edwards were easily spending 20 to 30% more on utility bills just from the fact that almost all of the unit’s return air was coming from the hot attic.
The team installed two high-efficiency Lennox units and a Lennox iComfort touch screen thermostat. Additionally, dampers were installed on all of the supply ducts running off of the units so that the system could be fine-tuned over time according to the homeowners’ comfort needs.
