Ductless Air Conditioning

Tuesday, July 28th, 2015

Ductless air conditioning involves the installation of an outdoor and indoor unit, similar to a central air conditioner system. But where central air conditioning uses a fan to distribute air through the ducts, ductless systems contain all of the indoor components in an air handler mounted high on the wall or on the ceiling. These air handlers blow cool air directly into the room, which is why most homes require more than one air handler. One outdoor condenser unit can usually accommodate up to four indoor air handlers, though. However, you don’t necessarily need ductless air conditioning to fix a hot room. Your current ductwork may just need to be repaired or cleaned, which is also a service that John’s offers.

If you choose ductless air conditioning, these units deliver cooling evenly throughout your home without having any ductwork. Ductless units are often just as powerful as central a/c systems. In fact, many traditional HVAC systems that use air ducts can’t perform as well due to leaks in the ductwork. With a ductless unit, you won’t have to worry about air leaks, which means you’ll be more comfortable and enjoy lower utility bills because of the energy savings.

When you use ductless air conditioning to cool your entire home, you also have zone control, which isn’t an option with a ducted system. Each air handler has its own thermostat, which means that you get to choose the temperature in any zone of the house separately from the other areas. So if you need the bedrooms to be cooler at night, but the kitchen and living areas to be cooler during the daytime, all you have to do is adjust the temperature in those zones.

If you’d like to learn more about ductless air conditioning, Just Call John’s. We offer ductless service, as well as duct repair and inspection for homes that have ductwork.

The Principles of Good Duct Design

Tuesday, July 21st, 2015

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, poorly designed air duct systems can lose as much as 40% of the heating or cooling energy passing through them. A poorly designed air duct system makes it impossible for an HVAC system to run at its optimal efficiency. HVAC systems are responsible for almost 50% of the energy expenses in a typical home, and the ductwork plays a significant role.

The design and efficiency of your home’s ductwork contributes to utility bills, air quality, and comfort, as well as efficiency and wear on the system. Ductwork provides the channel through which cooled and heated air travel. Restricting that air flow because of poor duct design is detrimental in so many ways.

Good duct design increases the efficiency of air flow, making it easier for your HVAC unit to cool down or heat up your home so you’re more comfortable. Sometimes ductwork is located in places where the air contains pollutants like dust and mold. If ductwork isn’t sealed well, those pollutants may be sucked into leaky ducts and delivered throughout the house. Since air leaks are one of the main cause of energy loss in ductwork, making sure all air ducts are well sealed and connected properly is important.

Leaks in ductwork provide a way for dust, allergens, debris, and pests to get into the ductwork. This will negatively affect indoor air quality and can cause airflow obstructions that contribute to energy loss, making your utility bills climb. Restricted air ducts will also add to the wear and tear on your HVAC equipment.

Just Call John’s and schedule an appointment to have your ducts inspected by one of our NATE Certified technicians as part of your annual HVAC maintenance so they remain clean, sealed, and insulated for optimal efficiency. John’s offers air duct inspections and cleaningso you can be comfortable all year round. We also offer our Peak Performance Club so you can rest assured that your a/c unit won’t konk out in the middle of summer.
