With winter coming to an end here in Phoenix, AZ, it’s time to cover up our heating systems and dust off our air conditioners for another long summer in the Southwest. If you’ve had your air conditioner for a decade or more, now may be the ideal time to replace it with a new one: before heating season has formally arrived when you have the time to schedule the installation properly. How can you tell if your air conditioner is ready to go? Here’s a few tips to point you in the right direction.
Repairs Are Too Expensive or Too Frequent
If you’ve been calling a repair service with increasing frequency during the last few years, or you’re looking at a repair call that is more expensive than the system it worth, that could be the sign you need that a change is in order. If you were putting off such a call, now is the time. Even if it isn’t, if you know that’s a possibility, you may want to move preemptively and replace the system before it breaks down in the lurch.
Efficiency Has Dropped
As air conditioner gets older, wear and tear robs them of their efficiency. The longer they go on, the higher and higher your monthly bills get. If your wallet was crying uncle last summer, look into a new system, preferably one with a higher SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) rating to cut down on those bills.
The System Is Old
Well-maintained systems can far outlast their initial warranty. If yours combines an age of 10 years or older with any of the above conditions, however, that is probably a good reason to look into a new unit with added features and fresher components.
